Dr Christopher Davis is an economist who studies the command and transition economies of the USSR/Russia and Eastern Europe. His specialist fields of research related to this region are demography, economics of the health and defence sectors, and industrial policy and industrialization.

His research activities are reflected in his teaching for the Oxford University’s Russian and East European Studies (REES) courses. He teaches the economics component of the core course Politics, Economics and International Relations of the Former Soviet Union and Eastern Europe and the demography/health/social welfare components of the core course on Society and Culture in Russia and Eastern Europe. He also contributes to the teaching of the quantitative part of the SIAS Methods Course.

        He  teaches the following second year MPhil special subject options: Transitions from Command to Market Economies in the Former Soviet Union and Eastern Europe; Soviet and Post-Soviet Russian Defence Policy; Economic History of the USSR and Russia; and Health and Welfare in the Soviet Union and Russia.
