On April 23, 2013, the International Conference "Medicine and Sport: New Challenges" took place as a part of the interactive discussion platform “Viable Healthcare”. The organizers of the event were the Russian Presidential Academy of National Economy and Public Administration and the Business Administration of the President of the Russian Federation were. ACIG Group of Companies was in charge of organizational issues.

In the course of the Conference, the participants discussed pressing issues in the sphere of sports medicine and remedial gymnastics development. The agenda was determined by the Instructions of the President of the Russian Federation in terms of sport for children and young people, school and students sport, reconstruction of the system of medical exercises early treatment centres, formulated summarizing the results of the meeting of the Council for Physical Culture and Sport Development. A number of state programs of various ministries and agencies, oriented on popularization of mass physical culture and sport, were presented for the purposes of the further effective implementation and interagency coordination. Particular attention was paid to the issues of social insurance and social security of sportsmen as well as the labour law implementation. For the first time, the methods of modern remedial training were looked at from the point of view of the implementation of the abovementioned direction. There was a demonstration of the latest information systems of distance health monitoring for sportsmen and people engaged in mass physical training and sport.

The event was opened by Vladimir Mau, Rector of the Russian Presidential Academy of National Economy and Public Administration; Aleksandr Zhukov, First Deputy Chairman of the State Duma of the Federal Assembly of the Russian Federation and President of the Russia’s Olympic Committee; Sergei Shakhrai, Head of the Administration of the Accounts Chamber of the Russian Federation; Andrei Kigim, Chairman of the Fund of Social Insurance of the Russian Federation; Sergei Shelpakov, Deputy Minister of Sport of the Russian Federation.

At the Conference, there were representatives of the Olympic Committee of the Russian Federation, federal and regional field-oriented ministries and agencies; the Business Administration of the President of the Russian Federation, Fund of Social Insurance of the Russian Federation and its regional offices; major insurance companies; sports federations and clubs; medical exercises early treatment centres of most regions; medical and rehabilitation institutions, participating in providing sportsmen with specialized and high-tech medical aid; Russian Presidential Academy of National Economy and Public Administration (hereinafter referred to as RANEPA) and heads of its branches; organizations interested in work in the discussed areas.
